When speaking with Dr. Kim Smith, you get a sense of someone who has come to an inner peace and attitude of gratitude for her many opportunities and blessings. Dr Kim Smith is an Ob/Gyn at Providence Women’s Health Care. Dr Smith was raised in Houston, Texas , and has one younger brother who lives in Baltimore, and is a faculty in anesthesia at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr Smith attended undergraduate school at Rice University in Houston. Being a Houston native, it was an easy choice to stay there for medical school and ob/gyn residency program at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr Kim Smith and her husband, Nathaniel have been married for 29 years. They met in medical school and their deep-seated love of healing and helping has been an important bond in their happy marriage. Nathaniel is an infectious disease doctor and currently serves as one of the four deputy directors at the CDC.
Before joining Providence Women’s Health Care, Dr Smith had a private practice for four years in Katy, Texas, and then served as medical missionary in Kenya, East Africa. She returned to the states for a few years in Little Rock, when her heart led her back to Kenya once again for another three years. In Kenya, Dr Smith and her husband worked with HIV/AIDS projects under University of Maryland and Fistula Project, funded by private endowment from Canada. Dr Smith returned to Arkansas, joined Central Arkansas Women’s Group, an award winning practice affiliated with Saline Memorial hospital, where she served for over 10 years. She and her family have settled here in Atlanta, and now found a new home with Providence Women’s Health Care. Being in practice for 25 years, Dr Smith’s favorite part of being an Ob/Gyn is the opportunity to get to know her patients at a personal level. Dr Smith enjoys the feeling of knowing that she can help the mother bring a healthy baby into the world and she is blessed seeing the joy everyday on the faces of her patients and their families.
Dr Smith is a breast cancer survivor. She uses her first hand experience with breast cancer to relate to her patients, has developed a practice that focuses on making sure they are proactive about their health.
Kim and Nathaniel have four children, Penny, Oscar, Malachi and Kathryn. Their favorite family activity is serving on short term mission trips, every year or two. The children enjoy long distance running, hunting, fishing and crafts. The family favorite vacations spots include Masai Mara in East Africa, Victoria Falls in Zambia and Jamaica, a little closer to home.
